Engaging Humanism in Spiritual Care
A Collegial Conversation Across Wisdom Traditions
An ongoing online academic consultation hosted by IASC, bringing together spiritual care scholars and practitioners for a collegial conversation on Humanism in dialogue with other wisdom traditions and worldviews.
The symposium will unfold through short essays, interactive responses, and curated engagement on the IASC website, fostering comparative reflection and practical insight across traditions. Selected contributions may be considered for publication.
Launching in early spring 2026. More details coming soon.
Years ago Martin Luther King Jr. remarked, “we are confronted with the fierce urgency of now…” The sentiment expressed in such a declaration rings truer today than when it was first evoked on the occasion of King’s Riverside Speech. To say that we’re living in dark, traumatic times in the United States and around the world, is an understatement. The twin threats of fascist ideology and political crusade supported by white Christian nationalism, and climate emergency present a formidable challenge, and especially to those involved in the multiform practices of spiritual care (including research and theory building) across traditions and disciplines. The IASC Conference—“Spiritual Care as Resistance”– was planned in light of that challenge. It was a space for reflection, dialogue and collaboration fueled by the power of compassionate care.
